L&rsquo;administration municipale a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de ne pas renouveler son contrat avec <strong>Astral Media<\/strong>, marquant la fin d&rsquo;une \u00e9poque pour ces installations distinctives que de nombreux Montr\u00e9alais ne remarquent plus, mais qui ont subtilement fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 nos espaces publics depuis le d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1990.<\/p>\n<p>En marchant sur la rue Sainte-Catherine hier, je me suis arr\u00eat\u00e9 pour vraiment regarder ces colonnes \u2013 les observer attentivement \u2013 peut-\u00eatre pour la premi\u00e8re fois depuis des ann\u00e9es. Il y a quelque chose de presque nostalgique dans ces structures qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 t\u00e9moins de l&rsquo;\u00e9volution de notre ville \u00e0 travers d&rsquo;innombrables saisons, festivals et manifestations.<\/p>\n<p>Selon <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ca\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philippe Sabourin<\/a>, porte-parole de la ville, \u00ab\u00a0La d\u00e9cision refl\u00e8te l&rsquo;\u00e9volution de nos priorit\u00e9s urbaines et de notre vision de l&rsquo;espace public.\u00a0\u00bb Le contrat actuel expire en d\u00e9cembre, et plut\u00f4t que de le prolonger, la ville a choisi de r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer ces portions petites mais significatives de nos trottoirs.<\/p>\n<p>Ces colonnes publicitaires, parfois appel\u00e9es \u00ab\u00a0<strong>colonnes Morris<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb d&rsquo;apr\u00e8s leur cr\u00e9ateur parisien du 19e si\u00e8cle, ont g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 environ 2 millions de dollars annuellement pour les coffres de la ville. Bien que cette source de revenus prendra fin, l&rsquo;administration estime que les avantages l&#8217;emportent sur la perte financi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Nous envisageons de r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer environ 3 000 m\u00e8tres carr\u00e9s d&rsquo;espace public,\u00a0\u00bb explique <a href=\"https:\/\/montreal.ca\/personnes\/marianne-giguere\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marianne Gigu\u00e8re<\/a>, membre du comit\u00e9 ex\u00e9cutif responsable de l&rsquo;urbanisme. \u00ab\u00a0C&rsquo;est un espace qui peut \u00eatre r\u00e9imagin\u00e9 pour les pi\u00e9tons, la verdure ou d&rsquo;autres commodit\u00e9s publiques qui servent directement les Montr\u00e9alais.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>La d\u00e9cision a suscit\u00e9 des r\u00e9actions mitig\u00e9es. Dinu Bumbaru, directeur des politiques chez <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritagemontreal.org\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">H\u00e9ritage Montr\u00e9al<\/a>, note que ces colonnes sont devenues \u00ab\u00a0une partie presque invisible de notre mobilier urbain,\u00a0\u00bb mais reconna\u00eet que \u00ab\u00a0les villes doivent \u00e9voluer et r\u00e9\u00e9valuer comment l&rsquo;espace public sert les citoyens.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Les commer\u00e7ants locaux, cependant, expriment certaines pr\u00e9occupations. \u00ab\u00a0Ces colonnes cr\u00e9aient en fait des points de rencontre utiles,\u00a0\u00bb dit Marie-Christine Champagne, propri\u00e9taire d&rsquo;une boutique sur l&rsquo;avenue Mont-Royal. \u00ab\u00a0Les gens disaient, &lsquo;Rencontrons-nous pr\u00e8s de la colonne,&rsquo; et tout le monde savait exactement o\u00f9 aller.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Certains professionnels de l&rsquo;industrie publicitaire sont naturellement d\u00e9\u00e7us. \u00ab\u00a0Ces plateformes offraient une <strong>visibilit\u00e9 unique<\/strong> dans des zones tr\u00e8s fr\u00e9quent\u00e9es,\u00a0\u00bb me confie Martin Beauvais, directeur cr\u00e9atif dans une agence de publicit\u00e9 montr\u00e9alaise. \u00ab\u00a0Il y a quelque chose de sp\u00e9cial dans la publicit\u00e9 physique, non num\u00e9rique, qui \u00e9tablit un lien diff\u00e9rent avec les gens.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p>Le processus d&rsquo;enl\u00e8vement commencera en janvier 2024, et la plupart des colonnes devraient avoir disparu au printemps.
